ABOUT
Sandra Sobel is a Medical Doctor, with board certifications in Internal Medicine, Diabetes, Endocrinology, & Metabolism, Lifestyle Medicine, and Obesity Medicine. She is originally from the Chicago suburbs and earned her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University where she majored in Health and Exercise Science. She earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed her intern year of Internal Medicine residency at New York Presbyterian – Columbia Hospital in New York City, and her final two years of residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. She received her training in Endocrinology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Sobel is CEO of Summon Health, LLC, a direct endocrine clinic in Pittsburgh, PA focused on personalized and comprehensive medical delivery of metabolic health conditions. Previously, she served as faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism for 7 years and as Clinical Chief of Endocrinology at UPMC Mercy during all those years. She was awarded multiple institutional grants that funded her clinical research interests in the delivery of diabetes care using diabetes technology. She has published in peer-reviewed medical journals, authored book chapters, and has also given talks at national conferences related to diabetes care. Her specific clinical interests are in type 1 diabetes management; type 2 diabetes management, prevention, and reversal; obesity management, prevention, and reversal; and other conditions of insulin resistance such as metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, overweight, and fatty liver disease. She also has interests in women’s health which include management of diabetes in pregnancy, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and menopause.
She lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, two children, and their dog. She was raised bilingual and is fluent in Spanish. She loves food, going to farmer’s markets, art festivals, learning about the diversity of cultures, dancing (both socially and to embarrass her children), and socializing with family and friends.
